Our mission is rooted in refinement and intellectual depth, ensuring that every article contributes to a larger conversation that our readers are eager to engage in and share.
Becoming a contributor:
As a selected contributor, you’ll gain access to our content management system (CMS), allowing you to submit articles directly to our editorial team. We value creative freedom, but it’s crucial that all content aligns with our mission and meets our editorial standards for quality, originality, and thought leadership.
Contributors are handpicked based on their expertise, style, and alignment with our values. The frequency of your contributions will depend on the specific contract or agreement we have with you. Some contributors may submit regularly, while others may contribute more sporadically, depending on the topics and timing.
Important to know:
- Mission-aligned content
We expect all articles to resonate with our core mission of refinement and intellectual depth. Your content should be thought-provoking, original, and thoroughly researched, offering insights that push boundaries and inspire conversations. While you have the freedom to choose topics within your expertise, they should always reflect the high-quality standards that our readers have come to expect from Abelson. - CMS access & Submission process
Once onboarded, you will be given access to our CMS, where you can upload, edit, and submit your articles for review. We ask that you include all relevant links, sources, and supporting material within your drafts. Our editorial team will review each submission, offering feedback and suggestions where necessary. You will be notified when an article is published or if revisions are required. - Frequency of submissions
The number of articles you are expected to contribute will depend on the arrangement we’ve agreed upon. Some contributors may be asked to submit once or twice a month, while others may have more flexible timelines. Timely, relevant content is always appreciated, but we emphasize quality over quantity. - Our style
We aim for clarity, sophistication, and intellectual rigour in every piece we publish. Articles should balance accessibility with depth, avoiding jargon while still providing meaningful insights. Below are some tips for ensuring your article fits with our editorial style:
How to write a Great Abelson article:
Step 1: Align with our mission
Our readers look to us for insightful, thought-provoking content. Your article should offer fresh perspectives on topics relevant to your expertise. Make sure your writing aligns with our values of fostering intelligent conversation and delivering content that sparks curiosity and engagement.
Step 2: Narrow your focus
While broad overviews can be useful, we find that the most engaging articles offer specific, actionable insights. Dig into niche areas of your field, offering concrete examples or case studies where applicable.
Step 3: Make it engaging and well-researched
Our audience values not just opinions, but well-researched, carefully crafted articles. Back up your points with data, academic sources, or credible studies. Wherever possible, include real-world examples or anecdotes that bring your ideas to life.
What we expect:
- Original content: Articles must be completely original and unpublished elsewhere. We do not accept republished work, even if it has been edited or modified.
- Word count: Most articles should range between 800–1,500 words. For more in-depth features or complex topics, longer pieces may be considered.
- Fact-checking and attribution: Please ensure that all data, quotes, and references are accurate and properly attributed. Embed relevant links directly into your article where necessary.
- Diversity of thought: We encourage topics that represent a broad range of perspectives. Ensure that your writing is inclusive and relevant to a wide audience, avoiding overly narrow or niche viewpoints unless necessary for your subject matter.
What we don’t accept:
- Promotional content: Articles should offer valuable insights, not serve as advertisements for a company, product, or service.
- Unverified information: Any statistics or claims made in your article must come from credible sources. Please avoid unsupported opinions or unverified data.
- Plagiarism or AI-Generated Text: We maintain strict standards regarding originality. All work must be your own; we do not accept AI-generated articles or any plagiarised material.
- Previously published content: We cannot accept any content that has been published elsewhere, even if you’ve reworked it.
Submission & Editorial Process:
- Submission Format: Articles should be submitted through our CMS. Include any necessary hyperlinks and sources.
- Editing: Our editorial team will review each submission, editing for grammar, tone, and alignment with our brand’s style. Significant revisions will be communicated directly to you before publication.
- Timelines: Please allow 2–3 days for editorial review and feedback. If your article is time-sensitive, please indicate this when submitting it. We aim to accommodate timely pieces whenever possible.
Other key guidelines:
- CMS guidelines: You will receive instructions on how to use our CMS once your contributor status is confirmed. We encourage you to become familiar with its features to streamline the submission and editing process.
- Reposting policy: You are free to repost your articles on your personal blog or website 5 days after they are published on Abelson, with a link back to the original piece.
- Communication with Editors: We value contributors who are open to editorial feedback and revisions. Maintaining clear communication ensures that your work aligns with our standards while highlighting your unique voice.
