Since 2019, Kering, the luxury group behind brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, has invited a female artist each year to create an exclusive artwork in celebration of International Women’s Day. The initiative follows a consistent theme: #NotJustToday.

For 2025, the acclaimed French artist Malika Favre, known for her collaborations with The New Yorker and Vogue, has been selected to craft a unique design for the occasion.

Born in France in 1982, Malika Favre studied at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art de Paris (ENSAAMA) before relocating to London in 2004 to establish herself as an illustrator. She currently lives and works in Barcelona.

Favre’s artistic approach is characterised by bold minimalism, reducing compositions to essential forms. Through her use of interlocking two-dimensional blocks of colour, she creates a dynamic interplay between positive and negative spaces.

For this special piece, she explores the theme of “sorority,” depicting a sequence of women whose gazes connect and gestures intertwine. The deep indigo blue used in the design enhances the visual narrative, ultimately revealing a white dove that emerges from the composition, an emblematic reminder that the fight for women’s rights is a continuous journey towards symbolic peace.

“Celebrating International Women’s Day is as important as ever in 2025. Though we have made incredible progress over the past decade, we are still far from living in a world of equals. Today is about celebrating us, our strength, resilience and, most importantly, our profound sense of sorority, something I have experienced firsthand throughout my life and career as an artist. Here’s to us, today and every day.” - Malika Favre

Kering has long been committed to championing women through various initiatives. This dedication is anchored in three key pillars: Empowering Women, an internal policy focused on developing female talent, Women In Motion, a decade long programme that highlights women’s contributions to culture and the arts, and the Kering Foundation, established in 2008 to combat violence against women and children.

These commitments align with the company’s participation in International Women’s Day, reinforcing the #NotJustToday message as a call to advocate for gender equality all year round.

Over the years, Kering has granted artistic carte blanche to a number of distinguished female creators, including Soledad Bravi (2019), Charlotte Le Bon (2022), Lou Doillon (2023) and Catherine Meurisse (2024). Malika Favre now joins this esteemed list with her compelling visual tribute to solidarity among women.
